Have you ever had those moments where you look back and get butterflies in your stomach? That’s how it should feel when you look back at your wedding photos. Your wedding photos are memories and moments that should be cherished for a lifetime. It can be easy to get distracted by the everyday mundane tasks, but every once and a while you revisit these moments. The moments where your life changed forever in the most beautiful way possible. For Chelsea and Kolin their wedding day was just that. Filled with butterflies in their stomach, goosebumps going up their arms and smiles that made their cheeks hurt. The AKP team had the utmost pleasure of being able to capture their Fall Wedding at Phoenixville Foundry and we are so excited to share that with you today!
This beautiful day started off with Chelsea, Kolin, and the wedding party at The Hampton Inn & Suites. AKP’s associate photographer, Anthony, was with Chelsea and her bridesmaids while our second photographer, Jess, was with the groom and groomsmen. It was here where we were able to capture the sweet moment of both Chelsea and Kolin opening up the letters that they wrote to each other. These moments always get everyone so teary-eyed and was a special moment to capture.
So you’re probably wondering… why are there two photographers? If you’ve been photographer shopping for your wedding you may have noticed that photographers will often suggest having a second photographer on your wedding day… but why? Well, there are a few reasons why you may choose to have a second photographer on your special day. Some of those reasons are:
Having two photographers on your wedding day isn’t just something photographers say just to “say it”. It’s with a purpose – trust us! That is why every AKP collection includes a lead and second photographer.
It wasn’t before long that everyone needed to make their way over to the venue. Chelsea and Kolin’s wedding was at the Phoenixville Foundry. This beautiful Pennsylvania wedding venue was built in 1882 and was the foundry of Phoenix Iron & Steel Company. The property was abandoned after the decline of the steel industry and then restored this location into a beautiful event space. Now the Phoenixville Foundry is a beautiful wedding venue that mixes modern while still retaining its industrial character. As soon as everyone arrived at the venue, it was time for Chelsea to change into her beautiful dress by Stella York. Shortly after it was time for the first look(s).
One thing about first looks is that there is a 99.99% chance that you will tear up while photographing them. Now you may think that we’re dramatic but let me say… we’re not. First looks can be so intimate and emotional and really are a rollercoaster of emotions for anyone involved. While here at the AKP team we love photographing first looks, they may not be everyone’s cup of tea. If you are reading this and are on the fence about whether or not you should do a first look, we got you! Click here to read this blog post where we go a little bit more in-depth about what a first look is and who should do one.
One thing that was incredibly important to Chelsea was to incorporate the first look with her dad. Like we said before, these moments can get pretty emotional so make sure you’re wearing some waterproof mascara. You’ll thank us later! Chelsea and Kolin also did a first look outside of the Phoenixville Foundry which was equally just as amazing, spectacular, and emotional as you can imagine.
Phoenixville Foundry has a ton of beautiful spaces indoor and outdoor which makes it the perfect wedding venue for portraits! A popular location is the iron bridge located on the property which always makes for a perfect backdrop during some wedding portraits. It was the middle of Fall so the fall foliage was in its peak and the sun was just beaming. It wasn’t long until it was time to head to the official ceremony and then reception!
As mentioned before, the interior of the Phoenixville Foundry is next-level beautiful. Despite their ceremony being indoors, there was plenty of natural light peaking in which was just perfect. Huge shoutout to Flora Event Design for having the most beautiful florals surrounding the entire ceremony location.
From there cocktail hour seemingly flew by, and before everyone knew it it was time for the party to begin! Oh, and by party, we mean the reception – lol. Chelsea and Kolin had their first dances together before splitting up to have their first dances with their parents. Reading this you may be shaking in your boots thinking about dancing in front of a crowd of people. Being the center of attention EVEN if it’s on your wedding day, might not be what you want and you know what? That’s completely fine! Your wedding day is however you want it, so even if you didn’t want to do a first dance you don’t have to! Remember that no one can tell you how to run YOUR wedding day. That’s the fun of it because it’s a day dedicated entirely to how you want it done.
After everyone got a few drinks in them, the dance floor basically broke out into the next Step Up movie. Everyone was dancing, laughing, and just plain having a good time which is all that we can ask. It was a beautiful way to end the day and the AKP team could not have been more honored to capture every minute of it.
