Located in Point Pleasant, New Jersey is a premiere wedding venue by the name of the Clarks Landing Yacht Club. This New Jersey wedding venue has gorgeous waterfront views and a stunning open-air ceremony site. Together, Laurie and Matt had the most beautiful New Jersey Wedding at Clarks Landing Yacht Club and we couldn’t be more honored to have captured such cherishable moments for them.
The AKP team arrived at Clarks Landing Yacht Club that early afternoon. I set up with Laurie and her bridesmaids in a suite located on the property. Our second photographer, Simone, was with Matt and his groomsmen as they took some getting ready portraits.
Tip: Typically if your getting ready location doesn’t have the best lighting, your wedding photographer may suggest having your getting ready photos taken at the venue. That way the lighting can be a lot better and easier to work with, which in turn gets you even more beautiful images. Remember, lighting is key!
After a few detail photos, Laurie had help with her mom as she slipped into her wedding dress. The getting ready process is also a great time to exchange wedding gifts and/or letters to your partner. Both Laurie and Matt had exchanged letters that morning and read them before heading down for their first looks. Of course, moments like this can be incredibly emotional. So always prepare for a tear or two just in case!
Laurie first did a first look with her dad. First looks are actually some of our favorite moments to capture because of two reasons. Reason number one, it gives you more privacy and intimate moments on your wedding day. Reason number two, you’re given the perfect opportunity to calm those pre-wedding day jitters. You can do a first look not only with your partner but with your parent/guardian, child, wedding party, etc. If you want to know more about first looks and why the AKP team highly recommends them, you can check out this blog post.
Shortly after Laurie and her dad’s first look, we met up with Matt outside for their first look. It was a beautiful moment between Laurie and Matt, and one that they will always remember. Keep in mind that if you’re planning to have a first look on your wedding day, that you will need to carve in extra time for this. Timeline planning for your first look is important to ensure you’re able to fit everything you want to on the day of the wedding!

After a few portraits with Laurie and Matt throughout the property, the wedding guests began trickling in. It was time to get these two married! Seats lined perfectly in a row with beds of flowers surrounding everyone made up this beautiful ceremony space. While it wasn’t the most sunny of days, we still made it work and had some stunning scenery. All eyes were on Laurie and Matt as they stood there with locked eyes waiting to say those two simple words. The wedding ceremony is always an anticipated moment, but one that we’ve all been waiting months for. Their love radiated as they had their first kiss as husband and wife and embarked on this new journey together hand in hand.
We enjoyed a brief cocktail hour as Laurie and Matt caught up with wedding guests and congratulatory hugs. However, it was time for AKP to steal the newlyweds for some beautiful sunset portraits. Sunset portraits are some of our favorite moments to capture with our couples. The way the sun peaks through and makes our couples look so golden. It’s absolutely priceless which is why we always encourage our couples to do sneak out for some golden hour portraits.
Cocktail hour was over and the reception space was opened for everyone to start getting the party started! Laurie and Matt had their grand entrance as husband and wife and moved swiftly into their first dance. First dances, whether it be with your partner or parent, can be incredibly emotional so we just warn you in advance. Basically the moral of the story is you may be crying a lot on your wedding day and you should be prepared for that – LOL. Now one thing to note about this wedding is that just about everyone was a dancing machine. Dresses were being twirled, hands were being thrown in the air and it got wild. This basically told me that we need to brush up on our dancing skills… ha!
Laurie and Matt, congratulations on such a beautiful day. The AKP team is honored to have been there to capture your special day and we hope you love your photos just as much as we do. We are wishing you nothing but love and happiness in your future – cheers!
