Autumn is when the leaves are changing, the air gets a little bit crisper and wedding season is at its peak. It’s not too hot and it’s not too cold, but it’s just right. As we enter into this new season, I can’t help but think back at all of the amazing couples we have had the honor of photographing during such a beautiful yet crazy time. In comes Alexandria and Chris. Their autumn wedding at Knowlton Mansion was a fall wedding dream. From the brisk air to the beautiful bouquets and details, a lot of time and intention went into curating their day to be just a magical as they wanted it.
Knowlton Mansion is a 19th-century country estate located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This estate was restored back to the original Victorian-era beauty that it once held in the past. There is a beautifully constructed contemporary conservatory, cocktail terraces, a pergola where wedding ceremonies can be held, and thirteen acres of gardens. It’s a beautiful Philadelphia wedding venue and one that doesn’t get as much praise as it should!
When looking for the perfect wedding venue for your wedding day, it’s important to take note of the features and amenities that they offer. Luckily, the Knowlton Mansion offers many amenities for couples looking to book their dream wedding at this phenomenal wedding venue. Some of those amenities include:
Making sure that you are being taken care of on one of the most special days of your life is a top priority. This is why we absolutely loved being able to capture Alexandria and Chris’ wedding day at this beautiful wedding venue. To inquire about booking your wedding at Knowlton Mansion, click here!
It’s important to know that the morning of your wedding will set the mood for the rest of the day. We create a well-thought-out wedding timeline that helps ensure that we stay on time with events being photographed. In case of an emergency or someone is running late, we also like to include some buffer time just in case anything runs behind. Luckily on this day, we were running pretty smoothly and were able to get some beautiful photos of Alex and her bridesmaids getting ready in their matching robes. While I was with Alex getting ready, our second photographer was with Chris and his groomsmen. It was during this time that Alex and Chris both read the letters that they exchanged specifically for the morning of their wedding. We just love when couples are able to do something sweet like this and make their day more intentional.
Shortly after getting ready, Alex slipped into her dress with the help of her mother before surprising her bridesmaids with a first look. Just as a reminder, first looks are not just for you and your partner. They can be for anyone including a parent/guardian, a wedding party, and even your dog! Read more about what a first look is and why it’s important on your wedding day. After her first look with her bridesmaids, Alex and I headed outside to meet up with Chris for their first look. Don’t get us started or else we may just cry happy tears.
The weather was just beautiful, so we were able to wander throughout the estate and really soak up the beautiful gardens and landscaping for their wedding portraits. Always make sure that you are communicating with your photographer about what you are looking for when it comes to your portraits.
Alex and Chris had their outdoor wedding ceremony under the pergola at the Knowlton Mansion. This minimalistic ceremony space made the biggest impact. You were really able to focus on Alex and Chris, their commitment to one another, and how much they love each other. The tears were for sure flowing, which just showed how much love and support they both had.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds locked hands and were grinning from ear to ear. Now, these are the moments we live for. We were able to enjoy a brief cocktail hour before whisking away the newlywed lovers for some golden hour portraits. That soft golden light is an absolute must-have! Cocktail hour ended and the reception space was open and ready for the party to start.
We enjoyed some first dances and speeches and toasts before being served a delicious dinner thanks to Conroy Catering. After an amazing dinner, Alex and Chris actually decided to do a private cake cutting. A private cake cutting is essentially when the couple doesn’t announce that they will be doing a cake cutting. It’s more discrete and is perfect if you’re not wanting to distract from the entire reception.
Before long, the night was winding down for AKP but we had to take some last shots. Sneaking Alex and Chris out for one last time, we had them take some portraits by the fire pits outside and even pop a final bottle of champagne before heading out for the night.
