New Year’s Eve is a day that everyone looks forward to. It’s the ending of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. It’s a day you can write down your resolutions and look forward to the future. For Emily and Matt’s NYE Wedding at the Merion Cricket Club, it was just that. A time to celebrate with friends and family and look forward to their new beginning as husband and wife. It was a night that the AKP team would never forget and documenting it was absolutely unreal.
Emily and Matt had their NYE wedding and celebration at the Merion Cricket Club in Haverford, PA. Established back in 1865, the Merion Cricket Club holds so much character and history which definitely makes it an eye-catching venue. During your wedding, you have access to their large ballroom space where you can dance the night away. Which is always a guarantee when we’re shooting your wedding… just saying! The Merion Cricket Club wants all of their couples who get married here to embrace their new beginnings and cherish the moment. Which coincidentally was perfect since this was a New Year’s Eve wedding after all. You can read more about weddings at the Merion Cricket Club and get in contact with them about hosting your wedding here.
New Year’s Eve can be a crazy day in itself. There is so much going on and everyone is just itching for the new year. Now imagine adding a wedding on top of that. The anticipation, excitement, and emotions were really running high this day but we were ready for anything the day brought to us!
Since it was a New Year’s Eve wedding, we started their photography coverage a bit later than usual. Totally fine because we were going to be up all night partying! I am so thankful to my second photographer, Jess, for coming along with me to this wedding and getting to experience the beauty of this day. Jess was able to help capture Matt and his groomsmen during their getting-ready process while I was with Emily and her bridesmaids. We spent the earlier part of the day capturing details, getting beautiful portraits of Emily in her dress, and getting very hyped up for all that was coming next.
The color palette of this wedding surrounded emerald greens, ivories, and nudes since it was a winter wedding. It was the perfect way to add a pop of color to their color palette without it being distracting or overwhelming. It also was the perfect pairing with their venue which made it even better.
The ceremony was a bit later in the day which gave us plenty of time for portraits. As I mentioned before, this venue has so much history and beautiful architecture so finding portrait locations was not going to be hard. It wasn’t long until we headed to Our Mother of Good Counsel for Emily & Matt’s church ceremony. Remember that if you’re planning on having a church ceremony, make sure there aren’t any photo/video restrictions! Sometimes photographers will be asked to stand a certain distance from the altar which can affect the type of photos you can get!
As we all expected, the reception was really when the energy began skyrocketing. After a night filled with beautiful first dances, speeches, and a deliciously sweet cake cutting, it was time to start gearing up for the big finale. By the big finale, we mean the ball drop and the ringing of the new year! We stayed up until 12:30 capturing the clock strive midnight as confetti canons were blown and everyone celebrated. It was the ultimate celebration for Emily and Matt, being surrounded by friends and family and ringing in 2022. It was the perfect way to end 2021 and start off the new year and we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
